We donate our time and talent to help many organizations within the Lower Mainland raise funds for worthy causes. Here is a list of the organizations we strongly believe in and are honored to support year after year:
In addition to supporting great causes such as BC Children’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital, Sasco is determined to make a difference in the communities we work in with our initiative we like to call Sasco Shares. Employees are encouraged to donate one hour of pay per year which will be matched by Sasco. The money collected is used to make a difference by working with those who are in need or just going through a rough time.
In November 2018, the Sasco Shares Committee made a donation to one of our own Sasco Employees who has had some unfortunate news come their way. Their son's Leukemia had unexpectedly returned after 9 years. Since this terrible news hit the family, they have spent a lot of time living in and out of the hospital, seeking treatment for their son. With this, we support our employees decision to be on a current indefinite leave of absence while their son fights this illness. In looking at how we could all help, the Sasco Shares Committee collectively knew that the decision to donate to this family was not only a no brainer but it was the least we could all do for them. With the whole company supporting this decision, we can only hope this made a little difference during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them.
In May 2018, Sasco employees actively participated in raising funds for the Children’s Hospital province-wide Jeans Day fundraiser. The funds raised help meet the hospital’s urgent needs like innovative research, urgently needed equipment and vital programs that make BC Children’s hospital exceptional. We not only broke our last years donation total but we more than tripled it by raising $1,505.00. We are incredibly proud of our employees for donating their money to this cause for the kids. A big thank you goes out to everyone who bought a button and then some! We sure have some big-hearted, generous folks here at Sasco.
Sasco provides students enrolled in the ACE-IT (Accelerated Credit Enrollement in Industry Training) program with 120 hours of on-the-job work experience. Sasco’s electricians act as on-the-job teachers and mentors to Burnaby school district highschool students in order to help them meet the requirements of the apprenticeship training program.
Sasco supports the Greater Vancouver Food Bank through a number of initiatives, including company-matched fundraising and food donations by Sasco employees. We are proud to support this great organization who relies on volunteers and who provides food for many children (41% of recipients are children).
We are grateful for the ongoing support that we receive at BC Children’s Hospital Foundation over the last 20 years, by Sasco Contractors Ltd. Their generosity in donating their time as volunteers and supporting as sponsors of our Building for Kids Charity Golf Classic tournament each summer, ensures that the much needed funds are raised to support the health and wellness of BC’s kids each year.
We are truly appreciative of the philanthropic spirit that is also shared throughout the organization, with employee support through Jeans Day and other fundraising initiatives. Thank you, for being champions for BC’s kids; we couldn’t do it without you!Allison Hepworth, Philanthropy Officer
